F.A.Q
Is the Cowichan Farm Club a CSA farm and what are some benefits of joining?
Yes we are a CSA Farm and Club. Community Supported Agriculture invites members to join a farm community to share in the experiences of growing, eating, and celebrating delicious farm-fresh food. The prepaid CSA arrangements are also a source of financial security for farmers and often result in lower prices for the consumer.
How does it work?
Membership registration are what funds the farm. It helps us plan the growing season and delivery system with maximum efficiency. In turn our Members receive fresh veggies directly from the farm all month during their membership period. This creates a partnership that guarantees fresh food at better quality and prices than traditional retail methods. Together we grow.
Delivery Location/Radius and shipping cost?
Delivered to your door anywhere between Nanaimo and Victoria! (Estimated schedule: Victoria to Duncan delivery every 1st, 10th, and 20th of the month. Duncan to Nanaimo delivery every 7th, 17th, 27th of the month.) Delivery to your door is free for our Members.
When will boxes be delivered? How large are the boxes?
Approximately every 10 days. For the average veggie lover our Large farm boxes are just the right size to enjoy all the food at it’s freshest, and just in time for the next delivery.
When do I pay the Membership fees?
Planning a farm that can feed many people takes an enormous amount of time and advanced planning. Many vegetables can take six or more months to grow, so we need to know in the spring what we must harvest for the fall. Because of this, our registration period is very short and only during the late winter months. Registration must be completed and finalized by March. Payment is completed during registration, and new Membership registrations are closed for the remainder of the year.
Refunds and Cancellations?
You may transfer your Membership to someone of your choosing within our delivery range. Given that so much advanced planning is required we are unable to cancel or refund periods. Membership sales and fees are final. We will gladly transfer the Membership to any one of your choosing, and do our best to be flexible with deliveries and any accommodations needed. We recommend considering how much you are spending per month at retail locations currently to see if becoming a Member is right for you before committing.
Is Registration closed?
When Registration is closed we will announce it on our homepage very visibly. Sorry to have missed you, next year we will have room for more Members. As we expand our Farm, and our Club of Small-Farmers, the Membership availability will increase.
Registration is closed, can I still buy boxes?
We only grow on demand for our Members, and everything is planted weeks or months in advance. Because of this, we are unable to guarantee any boxes for sale to the public.
Can Members extend their Membership during the growing season?
Many have asked, and we are certain you’ll be very pleased with the Farm Boxes so we are trying to orchestrate the option to extend in the future for as many Members as possible. It will have to be on a first-come, first-served basis. We will be closing the registration period at a maximum of 80% capacity to allow some flexibility in regards to Membership extensions.
